You’ll love the way you look and peel with chemical peels. If you haven’t ever indulged and gotten a facial chemical peel you should try one from Bare Envy. It sounds invasive and intimidating but all chemical peels only exfoliate the dead skin cells on your face, which causes the upper dermal layers to simply peel away. There are several chemical peel options and a wide range of benefits. Chemical peels reduce blemishes, skin discoloration including dark spots, wrinkles, and fine lines, acne and acne scars, and can reduce pores. Chemical peels can be more effective than microdermabrasion because microdermabrasion does not improve wrinkles and skin discoloration or offer as many benefits as a chemical peel. One added benefit of a chemical peel is that it can remove pre-cancerous growths.
There are three general types of chemical peels: Superficial, Medium, and Deep Peels and they can range anywhere from $120-$3000, although the average is $675. Bare Envy offers a very competitive price by offering Glycolic Acid Chemical Peels at $119 each and we offer a package deal of 3 for $299. The active compounds in a Glycolic Acid Chemical Peel are referred to as Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs), these ingredients when properly combined can create a formula that exfoliates the upper layers of skin. Glycolic Acid can be produced both synthetically as well as naturally (sugar cane derived), synthetics for Glycolic Acid are favored as they are able to be easily manipulated and controlled. Used alone Glycolic Acid has a natural ability to achieve skin hydration and moisture retention. Even with a tiny bit of other AHAs your skin can look firmer while skin damage is softened. Often AHAs like Glycolic Acid are used together with Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHAs) like Salicylic Acid. Glycolic Acid is also the quickest acting and is the gold standard of the AHAs because it is the most researched.
DIY Peels
There are DIY homemade chemical peels you can try at home. We are going to share our favourite facial peel recipe with you however this is not a “fix” for all skincare issues and there are several DIY homemade peels depending on what your skin requires. You’ll need:
1 Cucumber, remove seeds and puree
1 Tablespoon of unflavoured gelatin
Meat Tenderizer (2-3 drops of liquid or ¼ teaspoon of powdered)
1 Pinch of Cinnamon
Place the cucumber puree into a mixing bowl, add in your gelatin and mix a bit to start the gelatin’s dissolution. Then add in the meat tenderizer with the cinnamon and stir well until the gelatin dissolves, you may need to add a little water. You want a workable paste that is not too thick to spread but thick enough it will adhere to your skin. Spread the mixture across your face, avoiding the eyes. Remove the peel after approximately 20 minutes or once it is completely dry. Rinse off any remaining residue and moisturize with a gentle oil-free face lotion. Chemical peels should be done no more than once a month, we do not want to unnecessarily irritate the skin.
Warning though, if chemical peels are done at home they can cause irreparable damage to your face, you can experience hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation, and even scarring. If you are invested in your skin and you are considering a chemical peel to achieve a youthful appearance you probably care about the possible side-effects of a bad chemical peel. Without a professional’s education and information using an at-home chemical peel may leave your skin not properly cared for prior, during or after the procedure. An example of this would be cold sores, a client with a cold sore who tries an at-home chemical peel can spread the cold sore to their entire face. Don’t leave your face to chance, if you want to guarantee the best chemical peel to achieve your desired results visit Bare Envy. Bare Envy is confident in all of our medical skin treatments and we are happy to consult with you regarding your concerns and suggest procedures.
Some important information regarding your Chemical Peel with Bare Envy, avoid acid-based products prior to your chemical peel and following the treatment avoid peeling and exfoliating your face. It is important to use a gentle cleanser with mild soaps and use only a gentle massaging motion. You cannot wipe your face dry either, it must be dried by patting your face. The skin sheds anywhere from 3 up 5 days following the peel, the stronger the peels can begin shedding that unnecessary layer of skin in as little as 48 hours. In those 5 days after your peel when your skin is shedding it’s important to avoid sunlight keep your skin hydrated with moisturizer and protected with sunscreen.
