Look and Peel Great

You’ll love the way you look and peel with chemical peels. If you haven’t ever indulged and gotten a facial chemical peel you should try one from Bare Envy. It sounds invasive and intimidating but all chemical peels only exfoliate the dead skin cells on your face, which causes the upper dermal layers to simply peel away. There are several chemical peel options and a wide range of benefits. Chemical peels reduce blemishes, skin discoloration including dark spots, wrinkles, and fine lines, acne and acne scars, and can reduce pores. Chemical peels can be more effective than microdermabrasion because microdermabrasion does not improve wrinkles and skin discoloration or offer as many benefits as a chemical peel. One added benefit of a chemical peel is that it can remove pre-cancerous growths.

There are three general types of chemical peels: Superficial, Medium, and Deep Peels and they can range anywhere from $120-$3000, although the average is $675. Bare Envy offers a very competitive price by offering Glycolic Acid Chemical Peels at $119 each and we offer a package deal of 3 for $299. The active compounds in a Glycolic Acid Chemical Peel are referred to as Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs), these ingredients when properly combined can create a formula that exfoliates the upper layers of skin. Glycolic Acid can be produced both synthetically as well as naturally (sugar cane derived), synthetics for Glycolic Acid are favoured as they are able to be easily manipulated and controlled. Used alone Glycolic Acid has a natural ability to achieve skin hydration and moisture retention. Even with a tiny bit of other AHAs your skin can look firmer while skin damage is softened. Often AHAs like Glycolic Acid are used together with Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHAs) like Salicylic Acid. Glycolic Acid is also the quickest acting and is the gold standard of the AHAs because it is the most researched.

There are DIY homemade chemical peels you can try at home. We are going to share our favourite facial peel recipe with you however this is not a “fix” for all skincare issues and there are several DIY homemade peels depending on what your skin requires. You’ll need:

  • 1 Cucumber, remove seeds and puree
  • 1 Tablespoon of unflavoured gelatin
  • Meat Tenderizer (2-3 drops of liquid or ¼ teaspoon of powdered)
  • 1 Pinch of Cinnamon

Place the cucumber puree into a mixing bowl, add in your gelatin and mix a bit to start the gelatin’s dissolution. Then add in the meat tenderizer with the cinnamon and stir well until the gelatin dissolves, you may need to add a little water. You want a workable paste that is not too thick to spread but thick enough it will adhere to your skin. Spread the mixture across your face, avoiding the eyes. Remove the peel after approximately 20 minutes or once it is completely dry. Rinse off any remaining residue and moisturize with a gentle oil-free face lotion. Chemical peels should be done no more than once a month, we do not want to unnecessarily irritate the skin.

Warning though, if chemical peels are done at home they can cause irreparable damage to your face, you can experience hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation, and even scarring. If you are invested in your skin and you are considering a chemical peel to achieve a youthful appearance you probably care about the possible side-effects of a bad chemical peel. Without a professional’s education and information using an at-home chemical peel may leave your skin not properly cared for prior, during or after the procedure. An example of this would be cold sores, a client with a cold sore who tries an at-home chemical peel can spread the cold sore to their entire face. Don’t leave your face to chance, if you want to guarantee the best chemical peel to achieve your desired results visit Bare Envy. Bare Envy is confident in all of our medical skin treatments and we are happy to consult with you regarding your concerns and suggest procedures.

Some important information regarding your Chemical Peel with Bare Envy, avoid acid-based products prior to your chemical peel and following the treatment avoid peeling and exfoliating your face. It is important to use a gentle cleanser with mild soaps and use only a gentle massaging motion. You cannot wipe your face dry either, it must be dried by patting your face. The skin sheds anywhere from 3 up 5 days following the peel, the stronger the peels can begin shedding that unnecessary layer of skin in as little as 48 hours. In those 5 days after your peel when your skin is shedding it’s important to avoid sunlight keep your skin hydrated with moisturizer and protected with sunscreen.

History of Skin Care

Skin care and cosmetics can be traced back as far as Ancient Egypt over approximately 6,000 years ago. Cosmetics and skin care are nothing new and the global beauty & personal care products industry is projected to be worth $716.6 billion by 2025 – that’s just in products! Bare Envy is leading the local skin care market by exploring innovative trends, and it is important to know where the industry came from so let’s discuss the history of skin care. Babylonians used carved seashells to contain their skin care products, makeup, and ointments 800 BCE.

Cosmetics were important in culture as far back to the days of Cleopatra. There is a reason why her eyeliner is iconic. Cosmetics were used in more than aesthetic reasons, like mummification, burial traditions and the practice of worship. If Egyptians were not fully cleaned and oiled, they were forbidden from practicing magical spells or speaking religious incantations. Furthermore, cosmetics had the benefit of protecting the skin from the elements. Queen Cleopatra went as far as having sour milk baths – imagine the smell! Since there were no standard skin care products, individuals used what they found locally like oils, eggs (ostrich), herbs and plants, and milk. Even the exfoliants were crafted by hand using sand and aloe vera. Even today, some of the best contemporary skin care secrets come from the Egyptians. Their make-up was created using metal ores, water, oils, animal fats, precious stones, and more. Cleopatra’s classic eyeliner look is thanks to coal made from burnt almost, soot, lead, and coffee. They used red ochre clay to pigment their lips, cheeks, anything to achieve a flush color.

Ancient Egypt was not the only archaic culture to incorporate skin care and cosmetics into their culture and history. Ancient Rome and Ancient Greece used methods introduced by Egypt and built upon them. In fact, the word cosmetics actually stems from the Roman word “cosmetae,” which refers to the slave handmaidens who would apply products to their wealthy master’s skin. The ritual of skincare was developed by the Greco-Roman culture and they would devote an entire day to their skincare and beauty rituals. Marble statues often depicted the ideal image of beauty in individuals depicting perfectly smooth skin. To obtain this themselves, Greeks and Romans alike had their slaves pluck their hairs from their master’s body as well as apply fragrant perfumes and oils. Both Greeks and Romans developed products to protect their skin using ingredients such as white lead, chalk, starch, eggs, and even crocodile dung. They sought to tighten their skin and keep it looking as young as possible along with lightening their skin. In fact, we use honey, milk, and yogurts in many of our at-home facials today of which the anti-aging properties were discovered by the Ancient Greeks.

Another beauty phenomenon is found in China where some desire to lighten their skin. During the Shang Dynasty, Chinese coveted powdered and smooth skin on their face and found that Songyi mushrooms were an excellent natural ingredient to achieve this. Their aim was to have the whitest skin possible. Some even went as far as bleaching their skin. Many contemporary products today still use the Syongi mushroom. The Chinese have been practicing cosmetics and skin care since at least 3,000 BCE back when they began painting their fingernails with egg whites, beeswax and gum arabic.

The first records of skincare come from the Qin Dynasty when an empress recorded her developed skincare regime. She recorded using natural cleansers made from jellyfish and seaweed, improving her face’s glow with massages. She also expressed her belief in the connection between diet and beauty. This focus on maintaining a beautiful complexion through healthy living continues to strongly influence China’s culture today.

Medieval times developed many ointments using fats from animals and used many herbal remedies promoting fair skin and to mitigate pimples. Similar to the Chinese, individuals during Medieval times aspired to have smooth white skin. They treated their faces with cleansers and masks with some traditional ingredients like aloe vera, honey but also started using rosemary, cucumbers, seeds and even vinegar.

Renaissance cosmetology trends continued to use some questionable ingredients such as mercury, lead and chalk, continuing to rely on honey and herbs but started using broom stalks for cleansers and oatmeal for pimples/ breakouts as well as bread soaked in rose water for puffy eyes.

Moving forward to the Elizabethan Era when Queen Elizabeth I was popular, she excessively used lead-based whitening foundations. During this time period, it was not considered popular to bath, and people rarely washed their faces, and instead layered new product on top of the old product.

The Baroque period saw the rise of saunas and sweat cleansing, something we still do for our skin when we steam our faces today. The women of 1700’s loved milk baths and heavy opaque makeup. Rouge was very popular, and women’s lips were often reddened with vinegar.

The 1800’s saw the creation of products like Vaseline, chapstick and baby powder. During the 1800’s, hygiene products were growing in popularity as well as accessibility. Lemon juice was being used as natural skin bleach, and egg yolks, honey, and oatmeal for blemishes. During this time, cleanliness was held in high regard, along with cosmetics and skin care. The lead used in cosmetic and skin care products was not challenged until 1906, when the Food and Drug Administration was formed in 1906.

The 20th century brought accessibility to the skincare industry allowing cosmetic products to purchase by all individuals, not solely the wealthy. The 1920’s held trends such as acquiring a youthful glowing complexion. We saw products emerging, like Carmex lip balm in 1937 and sunscreens in 1935 by a man named Eugene Schueller, founder of L’Oréal. Estee Lauder launched in 1946, and the 1950’s saw an explosion in brands like Clinique, Oil of Olay, Ponds, and Clearasil. Beginning in the 1920’s leading up to the 1960’s, we saw tinted products aimed at imitating tans. By the 1960’s, darker skin tones were being embraced with a rise in the representation of women of color- Thanks Uhara! Once the link between the sun and skin cancer was discovered, the tanning trend and industry began to lose it’s growth momentum. The skincare regime however continually developed, introducing multiple steps: the cleanser, toner and moisturizer routine that we follow to this day, as well as the development of the first laser for sk

successful skin resurfacing. Dr. Howard Murad introduced the line “Murad” in 1989. Microdermabrasion rose to fame in the 1980’s in Europe, then continued to maintain momentum in the 1990’s in North America. By the 1990’s, we saw the rise of anti-aging formulas and products flooding the market. Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) were recognized by the beauty industry in 1995 and replaced many of the harsher chemicals we had been using since the 1970’s. The more recent developments have increased and refined our tools, resources and treatment options. More recently, Botox was approved in 2002 and was to be used to treat frown lines and wrinkles. In 2007, the Zeno Hot Spot, a hand-held battery-operated at-home acne treatment, was developed. Skin care and healthy skin has risen to popularity with the embracing of natural beauty over heavy makeup. The focus on natural and healthy skin is exactly why Bare Envy excels with the services we offer.

The National Museum of American History has a collection of cosmetic, skin care, and hygiene products that create a tangible timeline of how the defined standard of beauty has evolved.

Different Skin Lasers

Lasers offer revolutionary medical skin care treatment options for a multitude of aesthetic problems. Treating skin conditions with lasers has been a viable skin care solution in the industry of dermatology for over 40 years. The term “LASER” is an acronym for “Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation.” Lasers travel in a single parallel direction consisting of one color, or wavelength, creating a pure stream of light moving together in both time and space. Laser light is collimated, monochromatic and coherent – three qualities setting it apart from conventional light sources.

It is important to understand that there are ablative and non-ablative lasers. The ablative laser vaporizes the outer layer of skin – ablative basically means the laser wounds the skin superficially. An ablative laser produces the best results but has more downtime in terms of your skin healing. Ablative lasers can leave tiny sores, redness, tenderness, etc. and healing can take 3 – 10 days, during which you will need to avoid the sun. You may find icing the area (depending on the size) will help the possible swelling and redness. Your skincare technician will educate you on proper post-treatment care. Ablative lasers come in a few types:

  • Carbon Dioxide Laser (Co2) (9400 nm – 10600 nm) – This laser uses gas to generate an infrared light making it perfect for skin resurfacing.
  • Erbium Yttrium-Aluminum-Garnet (Er:Yag) (2940 nm) – Erbium lasers also produce an infrared laser but using a white metal, most commonly used for skin resurfacing and minimizing the appearance of scars.
  • Argon Ion (488 nm – 514 nm) – A Blue-green light found visible within the spectrum of electromagnetic frequencies.
  • Ruby – (694 nm) – A solid-state laser with selective modes of action and emits a ruby colored wavelength of light.

Non-ablative lasers are less-invasive than ablative lasers – they work by heating up targeted tissues without actually destroying the tissue. A few common types of non-ablative lasers are: · Intense Pulse Light (IPL) (500 nm to 1200 nm) – Popular for treating brown spots and inflamed blood vessels because this laser generates a wavelength that can penetrate the tricky red and brown wavelengths.

· Pulsed Dye Laser (585 nm) – Ideal for reducing the visibility of acne scars and blood vessels the Pulsed Dye Laser emits a laser on the yellow wavelength penetrating red pigments.

· Nd:YAG Laser (532 nm or 1064 nm) – Ideal for laser hair removal and tattoo removal and commonly used to reduce the visibility of brown spots the Nd:YAG lasers use a crystal to produce near-infrared light.

· Alexandrite Laser (755 nm) – Using a green gem this laser creates a wavelength that penetrates the red spectrum, making it an excellent choice for treating blood vessels, hair and tattoo removal.

Q-switching mode is an optical switch inserted in the laser cavity waiting for maximum population inversion in the neodymium ions before it opens, optimizing our clients desired results. This refers to the type of short pulses of intense light from the laser available on a variety of solid-state lasers.

Picosecond lasers also give short burst durations, which vary depending on the laser wavelength used – Nd:YAG or Alexandrite lasers.

It can be scary to consider lasering the skin on your face, but the technology is tried, trusted and true- not to mention FDA approved. The light produced contains a medium, which may be a gas (argon, carbon dioxide), liquid (pulsed dye) or solid (ruby, Nd:YAG, alexandrite). Nd:YAG and ruby laser are both, what we in the business would call, solid-state lasers. As lasers are classified by their lasing medium, there are 5 kinds of laser: solid state, gas, an excimer (reactive gases), dye (complex organic liquid solutions), or semiconductor also called diode lasers. Lasers are high-intensity light beams that focus high energy in a concentrated beam. As technology expands and grows, we see the rise of new and innovative laser technology, creating an overwhelming variety of medical skin treatment lasers and each type offers different benefits such as:

  • Hair removal
  • Tattoo removal (various ink require different lasers)
    • Black inks: Q-switched ruby, Alexandrite Laser or Nd:YAGLaser
    • Blue and green inks: Q-Switched ruby, or Alexandrite Laser
    • Yellow, orange, red inks: Q-Switched Nd:YAGLaser or Pulse Dye Laser
  • Scar reduction
  • Acne scar reduction
  • Birthmarks and Moles
  • Spider and Varicose veins
  • Sun Damage
  • Sagging eyelid skin
  • Dark under eye circles
  • Tighten crow’s feet
  • Tighten frown lines
  • Ageing skin problems
  • Age Spots
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Brown spots
  • Skin Hyperpigmentation
  • Uneven skin tone and texture
  • Smokers’ line

TGIF Facials

Ever have a really long week and just want to unwind? Friday is for Facials! Let’s relax and celebrate that skin because doing both will avoid breakouts. We are going to share some of our favorite face recipes! Because let’s face it, it’s Friday, we’re home and tired and don’t want to run out to Sephora or the local drugstore just for a facial treatment when we can get everything we need form home. So, let’s open up the fridge and get our faces glowing again.

Our first face treatment is a wash, because making your own face wash from home is inexpensive and does not reduce the effectiveness of a good cleanse. Without a clean slate, all the other steps of a home facial won’t be absorbed. Let’s start. You will need to acquire:

  • ¼ cup liquid castile soap
  • ¼ cup brewed organic chamomile
  • ¾ teaspoon virgin coconut oil
  • 8 drops essential oils – specific to your skin goals
  • Several drops of Vitamin E oil – optional, but recommended

We chose chamomile tea for its anti-inflammatory properties, but this can easily be substituted for distilled water, rose water, or pure aloe vera gel. Do not add the tea until it is absolutely cool. Mix well and place into a bottle.

The second step is exfoliation, and this step is important. By removing the dead skin cells, your face can absorb all the following treatments much better. Exfoliant recipes are plenty, and all are super simple.

  • 1 tbsp of Coconut Oil
  • 2 tbsp of Sugar
  • 2 tbsp of Coffee (Optional)

You can use Coconut Oil and Sugar as a face scrub but there is so much you can add. Coffee is known to reduce cellulite, so this can be added for a full body scrub. Be creative and swap out white sugar for brown sugar, coconut oil for olive oil, add cocoa powder, vanilla extract, honey, blueberries, lemon, essential oils, oats, nutmeg, etc.

Next step is a rich face mask and it is deliciously effective and totally edible. You will need:

  • ¼ of an Avocado
  • 1 Tablespoon of Cocoa Powder
  • 1 Tablespoon of Honey
  • Cucumber

Mix together until you have a smooth texture – make sure you do not get any cucumber seeds or skins, just the juices. You can also puree the mixture if you have a blender. Place the mask onto your face when your skin is dry and allow to set for 10 minutes. Wash with warm water, then moisturize as you noramlly would. This mask is excellent because the honey has an antibacterial component but also anti-inflammatory component from the cocoa giving your skin a soothing antioxidant. Lastly, the avocado adds in a hydration factor and the cucumber reduces the redness of the treatment while softening the skin. This face mask is delicious, so try not to taste-test it too much and save it for your face!

We always tone the face next, and there are many ways to make home-made toner as well. We appreciate simplicity and love using Witch Hazel. Witch hazel is a natural anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial, extracted from the Hamamelis Virginiana Shrub. It has been used for centuries in skin care. Witch Hazel reduces redness, acne, and skin irritation while also locking in moisture. You can mix a ¼ cup of Witch Hazel with a ½ tsp. of Vitamin C powder to maintain your skin’s natural pH level while tightening the skin.

The last step is to moisturize. To make a luxurious moisturizer at home follow these simple steps.

  • 1 cup of rose petals
  • Rosewater
  • 2 tbsp of Aloe Vera juice

Take one cup of rose petals and boil them down with a few drops of rose water. Filter out the petals, saving only the liquid remnants and add 2 tbsp. of Aloe Vera juice. Mix well and allow to cool in the fridge. The rose water will aid in dirt removal and add a fresh look to your skin, while the aloe moisturizes and helps clear up acne. By

maintaining a cool temperature, the moisturizer won’t open up your pores, allowing the moisture to be sealed in.

Pampering yourself may require you to take a trip to the health food store and after the makeshift spa night, you still might not achieve the results you wish. This is why Bare Envy offers the glamorous Hollywood Facial (also known as the Carbon Peel or Baby Doll Facial). The Hollywood Facial achieves results that you won’t ever see from DIY facials at home. It is similar to a mild chemical peel, except there is no downtime. A layer of liquid carbon is applied to the skin, which penetrates deep into the pores, similar to a mud or clay mask. As the mask dries it does not tighten or dry out the skin. Finally, instead of rinsing off the mask, Bare Envy uses a patented magnetic laser device to remove it. The laser is highly attracted to the carbon particles and when passed over the area, it destroys the carbon, taking dead skin cells, contaminants and oil with it.

This facial instantly refreshes skin by killing bacteria in the pores, allowing them to shrink and giving your skin the appearance of younger, firmer skin. Gentle and thorough, the Hollywood Facial reduces pigment, evens skin tones, reduces or eliminates acne and the scarring it can leave behind, as well as helps with the look of fine lines and wrinkles. Contact Bare Envy to learn more about all of our facial skin treatments today!

Dermaplaning

Is your method of exfoliating your face not giving you the results you are expecting? Try Dermaplaning offered at Bare Envy – a medical skin treatment that carefully removes the top layer of skin and vellus hairs (peach fuzz or baby hair) from your face. This technique has been well established in Asia, but is relatively new in North America and growing in popularity amongst the big cities like New York and Toronto. Professional makeup artists’ skin appears smooth and hair-free because they either shave their face or receive a dermaplaning treatment. Dermaplaning is an excellent medical skin treatment to achieve your aesthetic goals.

Dermaplaning is an effective and safe procedure using a sterile surgical scalpel, moving along the skin like a straight razor shave. The scalpel removes a few layers of dead skin cells thus you will instantly notice a softer, smoother skin texture making your skin glow with this procedure. Our clients can expect to see a reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, as well as acne scarring. Your skin absorbs product better without all the unnecessary layers of dead skin cells so your lotions will achieve a much deeper penetration hydrated your skin for longer as well. The results achieved from Dermaplaning are comparable to Microdermabrasion treatments as both treatments speed up cellular turnover and resurface the skin.

Dermaplaning should not be done more than every 4 weeks, allowing your skin to complete its natural cycle and rejuvenate itself. However, you can try Dermaplaning with certain chemical peels or other medical skin treatments. Dermaplaning is done before other medical skin treatments (like skin resurfacing using lasers) but keep in mind to avoid Glycolic Acid Chemical Peels. Ask your Bare Envy Esthetician to answer all your questions and offer recommendations. Following a Dermaplaning treatment, you may

see some redness, however, there is no downtime and can be done in under an hour. Clients should expect their skin to be sensitive 1-2 days following the treatments and to minimize sun exposure during this period. It is also important during your post-treatment period that you protect your skin with gentle hydrating products, especially those that protect your skin from the sun containing SPF.

Dermaplaning has its pros and cons but this procedure is NOT recommended if you are experiencing any of the following:

  • Acne currently inflamed or excessively oily skin
  • Women who are currently pregnant, breastfeeding or lactating
  • Severe Melasma (Hyperpigmentation thought to be caused by UV exposure, sun damage or hormones)
  • Cancer patients especially those with skin cancer on the face
  • Cold sores and HSV-1 active sores (wait 2 weeks until they are complete their contagious stage)
  • Uncontrolled Type 1 Diabetes
  • Dermatitis such as eczema or psoriasis
  • Use of Accutane within the last 6-12 months
  • Use of Prescribed Retinol within the last 7 days

Dermaplaning removes all your tiny hairs and makes your skin smoother, allowing your makeup to sit on your face smoother and more evenly. Your foundation will adhere to your face without the tiny little hairs making your skin look powdery. Cleopatra, an icon of beauty, boasted about the benefits of shaving unwanted facial hair thousands of years ago and this procedure has developed ever since. Bare Envy is confident Dermaplaning is not a fleeting trend, but a traditional method of hair removal and exfoliation making it a revolutionary medical skin treatment.

ClearLift Skin Resurfacing

All Skin Resurfacing lasers work differently, depending on your desired results and how fast or drastically the treatment effects are on your skin. At Bare Envy, we offer a variety of different medical skin treatment options in order to treat all types of skin and blemishes, problems, etc. If you are seeking skin resurfacing and facial rejuvenation with no downtime, our ClearLift laser comes highly recommended. It is important to know what the ClearLift treatment does to your skin so we want to share with you how this laser works on your skin, and what kinds of results you can expect. Bare Envy Laser & Massage wants to demonstrate our confidence in the treatments we provide by informing our clients thoroughly prior to their purchase.

ClearLift works gradually over several treatment sessions resulting in improved skin quality, texture, and appearance. This laser is safe for all skin types, especially darker skin tones – this is because of the non-invasive laser we use. Results are achieved without peeling or flaking, and the skin is tightened while pores are reduced. ClearLift skin resurfacing also promotes the development of collagen – this is why we book sessions every 3-4 weeks, scheduled around the skin’s collagen production cycles so that our clients achieve optimal results. Collagen is the protein that makes up almost 80% of your skin, along with Elastin and Keratin. While our skin regenerates itself in a 27-day cycle, our collagen production peaks around the age of 20 and then degradation begins. You can take supplements and follow a diet to help collagen production, but with only a few treatments of ClearLift Skin Resurfacing, you can mitigate the structural changes of your face during the aging process.

The reason that ClearLift is highly renowned for its skin tightening is because it works using a Neodymium-Doped Yttrium Aluminum Garnet (Nd:YAG), a crystal that is used as a non-ablative lasing medium for solid-state lasers. Non-ablative lasers are less-invasive than ablative lasers, and work by heating up targeted tissues without actually destroying the tissues. Ablative lasers vaporize the outer layer of skin and produce the best results, but have some downtime. This is

why there is no harm or pain, but suitable for sensitive areas such as around the mouth and eyes. Using the ClearLift laser ensures that our treatments use only carefully controlled heat as we use Q-switching mode (sometimes also called Q-spoiling mode). This means an optical switch has been inserted in the laser cavity waiting for maximum population inversion in the neodymium ions before it opens and releases the laser, optimizing our clients desired results. ClearLift is developed by Alma Lasers and is an industry leading device trusted by certified dermatologists. This reputable device allows Bare Envy to confidently offer aesthetic solutions for a variety of skin issues.

We offer anti-aging laser treatments on skin issues not specific to the face. ClearLift can reduce small veins, skin redness, photo-damage, and discoloration as well as loose skin and wrinkles of the neck and lines and wrinkles on the chest region. The results achieved through ClearLift Skin Resurfacing treatments have given this service the nickname of “Laser Facelift” or the “Lunchtime Facelift” because the treatments are so quick with immediate, visible results. Skin resurfacing using the ClearLift also improves the condition of your skin, helping improve even the most dry and sun damaged skin. It has been also used to help acne and the scars that acne can leave behind. ClearLift gently lifts the pits acne scars create, ideal for undulations and shallow scarring. All these results achieved by ClearLift leave the skin’s outer layer intact. If you want to learn more, or want a one on one consultation, contact the professional estheticians at Bare Envy. ClearLift Tattoo Removal

Bare Envy offers Laser Tattoo Removal. While we often get tattoos to express ourselves, who we are and how we express ourselves is constantly changing. Additionally, there are still industries and jobs with a stigma associated with the art of tattoos. Regardless of what tattoo you have and why you want it removed, Bare Envy can help with our ClearLift Laser technology.

Before Laser Tattoo Removal, getting rid of a tattoos was a difficult process which included exfoliation, dermabrasion and even chemical peels. Even after all the hard work, the pigments were often too deep to remove. However, with laser technology, results are much more favourable. Tattoos are made permanent due to the metals they contain, such as manganese, copper, lead and sometimes mercury. White blood cells will try to remove the metal deposits, but the ink particles are often larger than white blood cells. That’s where our lasers come in – our lasers are extremely hot and operate in a very narrow frequency at incredible speeds. The speed and heat of the lasers break up the ink particles using a process called photo-thermolysis creating a Photo-Acoustic effect. The ink particles are broken up so that white blood cells can transport them to your liver using your body’s lymphatic system. This process can be painful and can create scar tissue. The process requires 4-8 treatments per tattoo, depending on size, location and colors used (as black is much easier to get rid of than say yellow; every color requires a different wavelength of light and energy to be lifted). Now that you have an understanding of how the lasers work, you might take caution when getting a tattoo and need not worry about having them removed, but if you already have an unwanted tattoo, we have the perfect device to get you the results you seek.

The laser we use is called our ClearLift laser, a Nd:Yag non-ablative laser operated in the Q-switching mode. ClearLift is developed by Alma Lasers and is an industry leading device trusted by certified dermatologists.

  • Non-ablative lasers are less-invasive than ablative lasers, they work by heating up targeted tissues without actually destroying the tissues, where ablative laser vaporize the outer layers of skin and produce the best results but have more downtime.
  • Q-switching mode is an optical switch inserted in the laser cavity waiting for a maximum population inversion in the neodymium ions before it opens, optimizing our clients desired results. ClearLift ensures that our treatments use only carefully controlled heat to break up ink pigments.

The ClearLift Laser is not just amazing for tattoo removal, it is also the latest treatment in medical skin treatments featuring laser technology perfect for treating dark circles and puffy eyes but also minimizes pores, wrinkles, and fine lines by stimulating the skin’s production of collagen. Treatments with ClearLift take as little as 30 minutes and often you can see immediate results, including plumping, smoothing and tightening and results will only improve over the following month as your face rebuilds the collagen. For the best results, completing 4-6 treatments is recommended and by doing so every 6-12 months, you can fight off aging.

Bare Envy wants to give you a new image with our medical esthetics. Tattoos have existed for thousands of years, but mom was wrong when she said they are forever. Tattoos are not going away but as the tattoo fads come and go, there is an increase in adults that seek tattoo removal, cover-up or redesign. If you still want a tattoo, you may want to consider a cover-up instead of removal, but if you find yourself embarrassed, self-conscious or limited in what you can wear, then removal is the option for you. Our goal is to remove any barriers in the way of you enjoying your ideal self!

The Art of Massaging

The Art of Massaging

Are you aware that getting a regular massage can keep your body functioning at its optimal levels both physically and emotionally? We are social creatures and according to the five love languages, physical touch is very important. It is no wonder that massage therapy has existed for thousands of years and has more than 80 different variations of massages. Let’s examine the benefits massage can provide, the types of massage therapy we offer, our excellent team members who specialize in massaging and options to get the most massage value out of your hard-earned dollar.

The benefits are both physical and emotional. Have you ever noticed that a day or two after an intense workout the targeted muscles ache? With massage, you can expect the opposite. Within the days following your therapy, your range of motion can increase up to 60%. A massage will reduce damaged fibers and reduce the white blood cell count, which means the body does not have to work to repair the damage done by the workout. Massaged muscles also relax which reduces their swelling. In fact, when receiving a massage, your muscles weigh 8% less than muscles that are rested and relaxed. Relaxation is just the tip of the iceberg. Emotional wellness is also promoted through massage therapy. With the increase of blood flow, your mind can concentrate more easily on the things that matter and less on trivial, unimportant things. Your energy is renewed following a massage and the connection between your mind and body, not to mention that physical connection with another, is crucial to a balanced sense of well-being. In addition to the relief of everyday stresses, a good massage can lessen your depression and relieve anxiety. Depending on your goals, we have several options for your specialized massage therapy.

  • Therapeutic Massage Therapy

The mobilization of soft tissue is how we define Therapeutic Massage Therapy. This version is used to assist in the treatment of musculoskeletal issues and restore functional bio-mechanical systems of the body. There is a range of methods and depending on the technique, speed and depth, we can customize your treatment to be anywhere within the range of stimulating to soothing.

  • Thai Yoga Massage

Traditional Thai Massage is very different from the conventional massage we think of. There is no clothing removed, no oils or lotions used and typically, the recipient of this massage is stretched, pulled, rocked and/or compressed. This style of massage is just as intimate as the conventional type but is more interactive. The goal of a Thai Massage is to realign the body’s energy lines and pressure points using rhythmic and flowing movements as well as stretches.

  • Rattan Massage

Also known as a Bamboo Massage, Rattan Massages use bamboo stalks to replace the masseuse’s hands. This method is excellent for deep tissue pressure but can be as light or as deep as the client requires. Rattan Massages can incorporate Thai full body massage practices and lymph drainage techniques. One technique involves the tapping of the bamboo stalk during the massage to get the blood flowing and increase circulation to the muscles. The bamboo can also be warmed up, similar to hot stone massages. The techniques employed in a Rattan Massage allow the bamboo to stretch the fascia and loosen adhesions.

  • Relaxation
A general rule of thumb is that clinics offer Therapeutic massages and spas offer relaxation massages. At Bare Envy, we are client focused and offer whichever our client requires. Relaxation tends to be lighter in touch than a Therapeutic Massage, and the focus is to ease mental tension and superficial aches. A relaxation massage is a great way to pamper yourself and while still relieving muscular tension(s) and improve circulation along with range of movement.

  • Cupping
The practice of Cupping Therapy loosens muscles, encourages blood flow and sedates the nervous system. When done properly, it can relieve back pain, neck pain, stiff muscles, anxiety, fatigue, headaches, migraines, reduce inflammation and even reduce cellulite and break up scar tissue.

If you aren’t sure what the best method is for you, do not stress. We do not want you to develop anymore tension than you already have! We have an amazing team of certified and knowledgeable individuals who are here for whatever you require and are here to make educated suggestions and recommendations.

When booking with Bare Envy there are some things to bare in mind to receive the best possible treatment. Do not eat right before a massage; you do not want to stimulate digestion, however, do not skip eating. Try to eat a light meal approximately two hours before your appointment to get the most out of your massage. Drink lots of water before your appointment; this increases circulation allowing your muscles and possible knots to relax. Feel free to drink coffee before, however doing so after might reduce your bodies relaxation. Any gym visits and workouts should be timed prior to your massage followed by a shower. Warm showers help pre-loosen the muscles and begin the relaxation process. Also, skip any perfume or after shave; we deal with bodies and the smell of a natural and clean body beats one coated in chemicals, plus your massage therapist may have scent sensitivities.

Looking forward to your next massage appointment? There is no point in waiting, treat yourself and try one of our many massages! Ask us today about our new Massage Club monthly pricing.

If you have not heard of urinary incontinence, you are lucky. Urinary incontinence is the involuntary leakage of urine – an individual urinates when they do not want to. Urinary incontinence is a common problem that affects many people. It is most common in individuals following a pelvic surgery, common in women during pregnancy or following childbirth and during menopause, and for men dealing with prostate health issues. Some individuals go through as many as four to six disposable pads a day and the leaking probably is not enough to need adult diapers. There are some innovative products to absorb leakage, however, we propose taking control of your bladder and treat the root problem of urinary incontinence.

One thing you can do is Kegel exercises: squeezing of the muscles of the pelvic floor. Developed by Arnold Kegel, an American gynecologist who specialized in pelvic floor muscles, has given women a first-line treatment against incontinence, female genital prolapses, etc. Strengthening these muscles means you have better support for your womb, bladder, and bowels. If you’re interested in Kegels, we have some instructions for you:

· Always empty your bladder before doing Kegel exercises

· Find a peaceful, quiet place with enough room to lay down. In time, you will require less focus and be able to do them anywhere

· To start Kegel exercises, squeeze the muscles in your pelvic floor as though you are holding in urine for a count of three seconds

· Relax the muscles and repeat the process 10 times every day. Practice until you can do three sets of the 10 repetitions (30 holds) – if too easy, or you live for a challenge, hold for longer.

If you are not sure where these muscles are, it is important to identify them prior to Kegels. When you are urinating, try to stop the flow of urine whilst breathing normally. Do not clench the muscles in your buttocks, legs, or abdomen and once the flow of urine slows or stops, you should pay attention to your pelvic floor; those are the muscles to focus on. However, do not do this regularly, just to locate the group of muscles and pay attention to your body because

exercising the wrong muscles can make urinary incontinence or erectile problems even worse. Women and men can benefit from Kegel exercises; we all have pelvic floors. The group of muscles being stimulated is also the same group of muscles that increase blood flow and activate in the groin during intercourse. By strengthening your pelvic floor, you can also improve many sexual functions, like orgasm, but also erections and ejaculation in men. It is important to point out that a strong pelvic floor and Kegels can improve your ability to reach an orgasm, improve blood circulation to your vagina, and can make intercourse more enjoyable. If the sexual benefits interest you, try Kegel balls, or Ben Wa balls. Now sold as sex toys, these little balls have been used for centuries – even ancient Taoists had vaginal weight training regimens 5,000 years ago.

Talking about our nether regions can be difficult and sometimes embarrassing, but that’s where Bare Envy Laser and Massage come in with our fabulous BTL Emsella machine. A revolutionary, non-invasive treatment where all you have to do is sit on the chair and it will strengthen the muscles along your pelvic floor for you. BTL Emsella is the only FDA approved treatment aimed at targeting those who suffer from urinary incontinence regardless if the trigger is stress (coughing, sneezing, running or heavy lifting) or the strong and sudden urge to urinate frequently. We are the only BTL Emsella Provider in Regina and only one of two in all of Saskatchewan. The Emsella targets the pelvic floor with thousands of ono-invasive supramaximal contractions per session, lifting the pelvic floor and giving you back control over your bladder. BTL Emsella helps to alleviate it all using High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic technology (HIFEM®), strengthening and re-education of muscles via interaction of the magnetic field with the tissue of the patient.

Key Advantages of Treatment:

  • Restores the strength of muscles along the pelvic floor
  • Dramatically reduces the urge to urinate and increases control
  • 95% of treated patients reported significant improvement in their quality of life
  • Remain fully clothed during
  • Quick sessions that can be booked when it is best for you

Stimulation leads to regained control over pelvic floor muscles and bladder. You may experience tingling and pelvic floor muscle contractions during the procedure and can expect improvement after a single session, sometimes immediately. You may resume daily activities immediately after the treatment and the results will typically continue to improve over the next few weeks. The technicians at Bare Envy will be happy to tailor a treatment plan for you. To achieve optimal results, we advise at least six sessions, with each session taking roughly 30 minutes. It is as easy as sitting in a chair and letting the machine do the work for you.
