Dermaplaning is an effective and safe procedure using a sterile surgical scalpel, moving along the skin like a straight razor shave. The scalpel removes a few layers of dead skin cells thus you will instantly notice a softer, smoother skin texture making your skin glow with this procedure. Our clients can expect to see a reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, as well as acne scarring. Your skin absorbs product better without all the unnecessary layers of dead skin cells so your lotions will achieve a much deeper penetration hydrated your skin for longer as well. The results achieved from Dermaplaning are comparable to Microdermabrasion treatments as both treatments speed up cellular turnover and resurface the skin.
Dermaplaning should not be done more than every 4 weeks, allowing your skin to complete its natural cycle and rejuvenate itself. However, you can try Dermaplaning with certain chemical peels or other medical skin treatments. Dermaplaning is done before other medical skin treatments (like skin resurfacing using lasers) but keep in mind to avoid Glycolic Acid Chemical Peels. Ask your Bare Envy Esthetician to answer all your questions and offer recommendations. Following a Dermaplaning treatment, you may
see some redness, however, there is no downtime and can be done in under an hour. Clients should expect their skin to be sensitive 1-2 days following the treatments and to minimize sun exposure during this period. It is also important during your post-treatment period that you protect your skin with gentle hydrating products, especially those that protect your skin from the sun containing SPF.
Dermaplaning has its pros and cons but this procedure is NOT recommended if you are experiencing any of the following:
- Acne currently inflamed or excessively oily skin
- Women who are currently pregnant, breastfeeding or lactating
- Severe Melasma (Hyperpigmentation thought to be caused by UV exposure, sun damage or hormones)
- Cancer patients especially those with skin cancer on the face
- Cold sores and HSV-1 active sores (wait 2 weeks until they are complete their contagious stage)
- Uncontrolled Type 1 Diabetes
- Dermatitis such as eczema or psoriasis
- Use of Accutane within the last 6-12 months
- Use of Prescribed Retinol within the last 7 days
Dermaplaning removes all your tiny hairs and makes your skin smoother, allowing your makeup to sit on your face smoother and more evenly. Your foundation will adhere to your face without the tiny little hairs making your skin look powdery. Cleopatra, an icon of beauty, boasted about the benefits of shaving unwanted facial hair thousands of years ago and this procedure has developed ever since. Bare Envy is confident Dermaplaning is not a fleeting trend, but a traditional method of hair removal and exfoliation making it a revolutionary medical skin treatment.
